Dili, 16–20 February 2026, KDT-TL and ADTL — backed by the Ministry of Education, INL, and the Government of Australia, launched the national validation of Timor-Leste Sign Language .
Opened by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education, INL, and Australia’s Deputy Ambassador, the process brings together Deaf people and people with communication disability from across the country.
Why this matters:
Language = rights.
Recognition = power.
Inclusion = dignity.
The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Education to implement interpreter training and pursue legal recognition of sign language — transforming years of sustained advocacy into real, lasting action.
Australia reaffirmed its partnership, standing with the Deaf community on the journey to equality.
No one should be silent. No one should be invisible.
